THE RAINFORESTS OF BORNEO

THE RAINFORESTS OF BORNEO

Join me in one of my paradises, Sabah in northern Borneo and its rainforests. This is an area I began to explore in the late 80s. A few years later, in 1995-96, I undertook a 14-month expedition here for National Geographic. Now, I want to show you the incredible wildlife in one of the world’s most beautiful rainforests.

A glimpse

Upon arrival in Sandakan on Borneo, you will be met by Mattias Klum and a representative from FAE. After checking in, the rest of the day is yours to relax and recover from the long journey. In the evening, you’ll enjoy a welcome dinner with Mattias Klum, who will brief you on the exciting days ahead.

The following morning, our first stop is the Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre for orangutans—marking the beginning of an extraordinary few days that will culminate in the creation of your own unique 1/1 fine art print, personally created and signed by one of the world’s most renowned photographers.

During the trip, we will also explore the Kinabatangan River, one of the most biologically diverse areas on Earth. Along its banks lie dense rainforests and shimmering wetlands, providing a unique habitat for a wide variety of species and making it one of the world’s best locations to spot rare wildlife.

The highlight of the journey is undoubtedly Danum Valley, where we’ll check in at the first-class rainforest eco-lodge. Here, you’ll immerse yourself in the rainforest’s captivating sights, sounds, and scents. Mattias—who has spent over 14 months working in the area—will share his deep knowledge of the unique ecosystem that surrounds you, including its fascinating inhabitants like the endangered orangutan.

One morning, we will rise early to capture the sunrise from the GAW Tower—an observation point offering stunning panoramic views of the rainforest canopy shrouded in morning mist. This is a truly unforgettable experience.
